6 Things You Must Keep In Mind Before Appearing For A Competitive Exam

After tenth, a student starts competing at the national level from the school level. Competitive exams are designed to get the best candidates out of the ones appearing for it. Here are 6 tips to crack some of the most difficult competitive exams:

1) Interests

Be sure that your interests and passion lies in the field you choose. In general, there is a lot to study for a competitive exam. Having an interest in the same would motivate you to never give up and work hard towards it.

2) Understanding of the paper

You must have a good understanding of the paper. Are there objective questions or subjective questions? What is the time limit? What is the maximum time I could spend per question in a paper?

You must practice more of objective questions if paper contains only objective questions. Let us suppose you could spend a maximum of 5 minutes per question in the paper. Then you should avoid solving questions that take you 20 minutes or more to solve.

3) How to go about a Chapter

Try understanding the concepts of the chapter first. Then practise ample problems that could help you in application of these concepts. Prefer practising problems that cover all the different applications of a particular concept. This would give you more confidence in that particular chapter.

4) Tackling Difficult Chapters

Often competitive exams have a vast portion to cover. It is quite natural that you have difficulties to comprehend a particular chapter. Make sure you know the weightage of that chapter and its importance to understand chapters that follow.

It is better to be well prepared for eighty percent of paper. Don't complete the entire portion for the sake of completion.

5) Give as many papers as possible

Start giving as many papers as possible once you have completed your portion. In the examination hall, many students are familiar with the concepts but few could apply it in the limited time of paper.

Also prefer practising papers at the exact same time of the day when you have your paper scheduled. This would help you be more accustomed to the timings of the paper.

6) Analyse past years papers

Prefer solving out the previous years paper with your friends. This could help you get to know about the different approaches to a particular question. Also it will reduce your time to analyse the paper completely.

In case you don't prefer studying with your friends, you can approach a professor to clear your doubts. Make sure to analyse the paper completely.
